Description

A magical, harmonious site. . . Real therapy for the soul

Respect for the environment was a priority during the construction of Dar HI - designed by Matali Crasset. Therefore, Dar Hi has been developed in harmony with local life and the surrounding natural environment. The architecture is typical of the area and only locally available materials are used for the decoration and furniture. Everything has been created to allow the charm of Nefta to work its magic.

The team at Dar HI offer simple yet friendly and unobtrusive hospitality. The cooks prepare a variety of local and simple dishes using organic produce cultivated on-site; no high gastronomy nor imported products.

Curious travellers can even spend a few days during their stay within the date grove in a palm tree tilt or at Dar Malika (a typical house) that is close to the Dar HI in Nefta.

Our hotel rates include:

  • Airport transfers to and from the hotel (Tozeur airport only)
  • All meals, soft drinks and local alcoholic beverages
  • Access to the traditional hammam and the thermal pool with its massage jets
  • Laundry service.

Accommodation

Dar Hi offers guests a choice of 17 rooms with 4 different styles of accommodation:

On Stilts (Pill houses)

9 unique 'air' rooms, each with incredible panoramic views over the palm gardens and the town. Some have a panorama over-looking the horizon of the salted lake, others have a view of the palm grove and its very diverse landscape. High above the ground the room is structured around a bow window, as if the view was integrated in the room. A small table to nibble or work, a large bed that hides part of the shower and toilets compose the room.Everyone has a private space that is protected from the sun.

Troglodytes

3 sets of lodgings for up to 4 guests each, built into the rocks with small bricks from Nefta. Each private terrace is united by a common, circular patio. Collective life is articulated around a small square with a small water cascade and a bread oven. These rooms can be 'block booked' for a family or a group of friends if desired.

Dunes

3 sets of lodgings for up to 4 guests each, right by the desert sand and unique in their own way: one has a loggia with interior gardens and skylight. Another is vast with an exterior terrace and a bay window overlooking the town of Nefta. The third is also extremely spacious and fresh with a view over the palm gardens and a wooden alcove terrace.

Dar Malika

2 rooms in a traditional house in the heart of the town, allowing you to spend time with your friends and use the hotel's facilities but also remain independent.

Food and Beverage

Every day, a variety of dishes are prepared and served in different parts of the hotel - even in the shade of the palm trees of the oasis. The cuisine is in keeping with the local women's traditional dishes and a touch of style is added by Frederick E. Grasser Herme. The chefs go out every morning to the hotel's organic vegetable gardens and make sure the meals have all the flavour and aroma of home-cooked food.

Watch the cooks at work, all from Nefta village. The kitchen area is open to guests 24 hours a day. There is no area dedicated for the restaurant but a large table and small tables that can be arranged.

Leisure and Recreation

  • Hi Body and Soul - a complex of massage and treatments rooms, a hammam, a pool with warm thermal waters and massage jets as well as a yoga studio.
  • The pool, suspended over the central patio, is filled with the warm source waters of the Nefta.

Dar HI has different communal areas that are places to meet and share:

"Leaving the communal areas as open as possible, I wished to leave an easy circulation with a large potential to use the area as much as possible" says Matali.

The Kitchen

The large table and small tables can be arranged for social dining and gatherings.

The Auditorium

Cinema, music, rest. As there are no televisions in the rooms this area allows people to gather and listen to music or watch a movie.

The Library (around the staircase)

Like a hedgehog, the staircase has wooden sticks where books are placed and easily accessible. You can come choose a book, read it, put it back or sit comfortably to read it.

The modular living area

With poufs, it is a very agreeable area that you can 'build' yourself. With alcoves, suspensions in terracotta and its chimney, it is a nice area for intimate and warm evenings.

Dar HI bazaar by FeGHtima

The shop created by Frederick E Grasser Hermeill allow you to discover typical products and aromas.

All sorts of activities await... E.g.

  • Carriage rides in the palm gardens
  • Walk around the town of Nefta and its medina
  • Visit the date factories
  • Relax in a bedouin tent.
